Understanding Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s

It’s no secret that Alzheimer’s and dementia are challenging diseases to deal with. When a loved one is diagnosed, the spouse and family members always face great uncertainty: Will they be able to care for their loved one at home? Will they need to hire an outside caregiver? Or will they need to move their loved one to an assisted living community?

Caring for someone with dementia can be demanding, particularly as the disease progresses. Choosing a senior living residence for a loved one is one of the biggest decisions of your life. Contrary to what some people may worry about sending a loved one “away” to assisted living, a memory care community provides a wonderful long-term care option that combines housing, support services and health care by highly trained staff, as well as social and wellness activities designed to support a well-rounded lifestyle.

If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia, you of course want them in a community with facilities specifically designed and staff specially trained for memory care, like Bridges by EPOCH. So how do you begin researching where to place your loved one, and what questions should you ask when going through your research to find the right place?

Nadine Shwieri, RN, Wellness Director at Bridges by EPOCH at Hingham, can help. She will be giving a presentation on Monday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. “Understanding the True Supportive Services of Memory Care Assisted Living.” For more info and to RSVP, click here.
