Abbi Laushine wins 2018 Friend of Vocational Education Award

Abbi Laushine, Life Enrichment Director at Bridges by EPOCH at Westford, recently accepted the 2018 Friend of Vocational Education Award from the Massachusetts Vocational Association at the annual MVA convention in Foxboro on March 24.

Abbi was recognized for the partnership she has formed between Bridges by EPOCH at Westford’s residents and the students at Nashoba Valley Technical High School. Through this partnership, Laushine coordinates visits and special events between Bridges by EPOCH residents and the high school students, as well as the preschoolers at the Nashoba Valley Early Learning Center. The intergenerational connections formed through this program have benefited both students and residents alike.

A resident of Westford, Laushine is co-chair of the Dementia Friendly Westford initiative. She won a 2016 Hero Award from Argentum (previously the Assisted Living Federation of America) as well as a 2017 Eversound Champion Award in recognition of her outstanding work with individuals living with dementia.

In her role as Life Enrichment Director, Abbi is in charge of resident programming at Bridges by EPOCH at Westford. Under Abbi’s direction, residents participate in such programs as art and storytelling therapy, as well as volunteer activities, like baking and knitting for charity. Visits and activities with Nashoba Tech students has also become a regular part of resident programming, thanks to Abbi’s talent for creating connections between our residents and the rest of the community.
