Alicia Seaver earns certification in innovative dementia-care program

Alicia Seaver earns Teepa Snow certificationWe’re excited to announce that our own Alicia Seaver—executive director of Bridges by EPOCH at Hingham and soon to be regional director of Bridges memory care—earned her certification as a “Positive Approach to Brain Change” Approved Trainer.

Trainees receive in-depth knowledge of strategies and environmental modifications that help improve quality of life and safety for people living with dementia. Certified individuals demonstrate a mastery of dementia care techniques and serve as a qualified resource to families, communities or agencies.

Alicia participated in the intensive training program to elevate care for Bridges residents and provide exceptional guidance to our staff, families and professional partners.

“I look forward to sharing these new techniques and strategies to help our staff and the people who attend the presentations and support groups I lead,” Alicia said. Being an approved trainer in these cutting-edge techniques will prove particularly valuable as Alicia moves to her regional director role in March 2015, bringing the latest in dementia care to all our Bridges communities.

The “Positive Approach to Brain Change” program was developed by Teepa Snow, one of America’s leading educators on dementia. Snow’s mission is to help caregivers better understand how it feels to be living with dementia. Her person-centered care philosophy is reflective of her education, work experience, medical research and firsthand caregiving interactions. The program’s techniques are used by families and professionals working or living with dementia throughout the world.
