Meet our team: Life Enrichment Assistant Abbi

Life Enrichment Assistant Abbi with residentsAbbi has been a part of our team at Bridges by EPOCH at Westford since our community opened in June 2013. Initially, she started out as one of our certified nursing assistants, but earlier this year, she became our Life Enrichment Assistant.

In her new role, Abbi helps run a wide range of programs that all aim to improve residents’ quality of life. She helps coordinate numerous music events, science projects, gardening club, book club, walking club and more.

Abbi loves working with seniors and has been doing it for more than six years. She used to work in home health care but loves working in a community. “It’s a lot faster paced, but it’s more like a family,” she said. She was excited when she found out that Bridges would open and applied right away.

She loves working here because she says everyone is dedicated to making the community feel like home. “It’s all about the residents and what their needs are. Bridges is really unique with its focus on life enrichment. Even though dementia is an end of life diagnosis, we can still make a positive impact.”

One of her favorite things about her job is seeing residents light up as they recognize an old song. When they start singing along, she feels like she’s making a difference in their lives. She loves helping them tap into old memories. “When they smile, you see that person the disease takes away,” she said. “It’s very fulfilling. Every morning I get up and feel good about going to work.” We’re so happy to have Abbi on our team!
